The municipality of Ischia extends along the north-eastern coast of the island. from the hills of S.Alessandro to the Aragonese Castle. Its surface is about 9 sq km and has a population of around 16,000 inhabitants. The average altitude is 70 meters. The territory is divided into two main toponyms: Ischia Porto, formerly called Villa dei Bagni for the presence of several spas, and Ischia Ponte, the ancient village of Celsa. Other districts are: S. Michele, S. Antuono, Campagnano, S. Alessandro, S.Ciro. The name of Ischia has been extended to the whole municipality in recent times,
because in ancient times the “City of Ischia” was made up of the so-called “Aragonese Castle”, where the governor of the island and the bishop of the diocese were based. A delightful and lively town, it is today the true center of the island. White and multicolored houses extend around the crater lake, opened to the sea by Ferdinando Il di Borbone and which has become a safe harbor. The town is adorned with a lush pine forest that stretches as far as the beaches .. Location famous for its beaches, thermal springs, historical attractions, full of luxury hotels on enchanting locations.
